2008 Peewee’s Mountain Bike Festival Info!

June 4th, 2008 · Posted by Swanson · 6 Comments

On June 21st, 2008 the 9th annual Pee Wee’s Memorial Mountain Bike Festival will be held from 10 a.m. til ?

This year the festival will be scaled-back to a celebration among riders, the community of friends developed through the years, and all those who wish to honor the spirit of Harold “Pee Wee” Morrison and what he created in Lincolnton, N.C.

It’s about more than a place to ride, a place to share fun memories, a place to conquer trail obstacles, and even more than the thrills, chills, and spills we take on the trails.  It’s about those things that bring us to the trails and keep us coming back for more!

So, this year’s festival will be a true celebration of being part of a community of people who share all of these things, and wish to be together with friends, new faces, new friends, all sharing our love of mountain biking at Pee Wee’s!

There will be fun events for the family and prizes to be given away.  No competitions like usual, more fun for everyone!  The admission will be $5.00 each person, additional raffle tickets can be purchased for more chances at prizes.

The dirt jumps will be “sessioned” all day!  (waiver must be signed!)
The stunts will be “sessioned” all day!  (waiver must be signed!)
The trails will be “ridden” all day long! (waiver must be signed!)
Prizes will be given out during the day at various times!  Raffle ticket(s) must be purchased to win prizes…
Admission covers:  meal of hotdog and hamburger and drink, and one raffle ticket!!!

After the festival ends….a very special concert will happen!!!

The local band

FAKE I.D. (Sublime Cover Band)

will be playing for your enjoyment!  You will be allowed to camp on the grounds after the concert…

What does it mean by “The stunts will be sessioned”?

Mark, in previous years, that the “north shore-style” stunts have been used at Pee Wee’s during the festival as a competition-type event. This year the stunts will be available for all riders to use…provided that they sign a liability waiver and pay the $5.00 event fee during the festival. As stated in my message…if you have any further questions please email me…Mike Swanson banjodawgcms@bellsouth.net or clarksbikecenter@charter.net

Thanks, and I hope to see everyone next Saturday at Pee Wee’s for the festival!!!

Hi Everybody!!! Great times to be had at the Ninth Annual Memorial Pee Wee’s Mountain Bike Festival!

Thanks to each and everyone of you that came out, lended a much-needed hand, and then had a great time at the festival…good eats!, great prizes to be won!, and fun events and clinics. I hope that more events can be brought to the Tenth festival, which is going to be held March 28th and 29th! It will be a humdinger I promise.

While riding the beginner stunt/teeter line in the stunt area, a Murphy mountain biker, Danielle Crocker fell from her bike on a wooden teeter, that’s called the beginner line. The line is about 2.5′ wide and starts with a teeter, and goes in various turns and widths to a 6×8′ beam section or an option down a wider ladder system. There are several options given to the rider. On the teeter that Danielle was injured on, the rider goes down a short section of ladder to the incline of the teeter, it pivots on a piece of pipe through holes in the support frame of the ladder/teeter board.

The purpose of the stunts is to learn and progress to various skill levels upon learning to ride the stunts. It is always recommended to ride with a helmet, a requirement at Pee Wee’s…and it is also a requirement to sign-in at the donation box…

If you are a beginner, please don’t try the “stunts” alone. Mountain-biking is an inherently-dangerous sport with life-threatening dangers, please use caution any time you are riding in a park, on the street, or on the trails…be safe please.

It would also be good to have “spotters” with you if you try of the stunts at Pee Wee’s or any other park or trail.

I just got off the phone with Danielle, and she’s in great spirits. She gets to go home today! Man, that’s awesome! She told me that she was walking around a little with the help of a walker, and that she has to wear a neck brace (until she has healed), and a back brace until bedtime. Please continue to send her your thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes!!!

She is in room number 9932 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. phone number is 704-355-2000

Thanks everyone for showing your support and concern for Danielle and Matt, and please keep them in your thoughts and prayers
