Ain’t It Funny How Life Changes?

October 10th, 2008 · Posted by BBA · 9 Comments

Its funny to watch how things change as time rolls on by. As I look back on the last10 years of our little mountain bike group of misfits and realize how much has changed it really is mind boggling to think where all of us are today. Sitting in the chair at the restaurant and watching two of my long time mountain bike buds play with their kids as I hold my soon to be one year old daughter it is pretty damn cool to realize we have created the next generation of pedalers.

I think back at all the amazing rides and times we have spent together on our bikes its a fine day when the bikes are put away and we are just hanging out with our kids talking about riding, shitty diapers and life in general. It seems that one day I was out on a pounder of a ride with Moron, DD, WyldWilly, Danno, Buddy, RacerRuss, Freedog and whomever else decided to come along for the abuse or hanging out at the Hick park with C-los, Steve-o, DD, Harvey and my lil bitch Necker to pulling my kid around in a tag along cart behind my bike on the streets of LasVegas!

I catch myself often wondering what life has thrown at all my old riding buds? I still keep in touch with alot of you smelly bastards but we have all scattered across the country to every corner it seems. I still remember the crazy Weekend at Wilson camp outs and the great park rides we used to have where at times there were thirty riders at that place. Though I seem to be on the twist throttle two wheelers alot more these days I hope to one day be back in Wilson creek pedaling with the old crew and having a good time.

To here all the chatter and talking as eveyone comes up to the rest spot in between Greentown and Raiders camp to all the yahoos and smiles after railing Sinkhole at the end of the day. I can’t wait to tell Zoe about the great rides, pranks and after-ride dinners that seemed to be the icing on a great epic pedal. So heres to all of you sorry SOB’s that shared the woods and trails with me on a regular basis. Though I still enjoy riding its not the same without the crew right there >>>behind<<< me hahaha! Aint it funny how life changes?

Cheers BBA

matt, it’s really funny how things happen for sure. who would have thought everything that god puts in our paths and the rewards he gives us. I had a bouncing baby boy this past sunday 11/9/08 holden noah bailey. 7 pounds 11 ounces and 21 inches long. the miracle of birth is the most amazing thing i have ever went through. i can’t wait to get him on a bike, skateboard, snowboard whatever he wants under his feet. it was great reading this and i look forward to speaking with all of you guys really soon.

Wow I just checked the comments on here and was totally blown away at who’s name I saw! Freedog I will give you a ring next week brother.

Jeffkill, looks like we will be heading back your way at the end of this year. I’ve had my feel of Vegas and getting the fuck out of this place! Need to get back on the pedals, been on the twist throttles too much.

Maloney its good to hear from you bro, most diff will give you a call next week.

Mick, congrats on the little one man, I guess all of our kids will be coming up together since we are moving back to NC and we will all have to take the wee’s to Tanglewood to let them rip on the ultralites!

Matt it was good to read this. I read it not too long ago but was unable to find time to properly respond. A lot has changed in my life over the recent years. I live in North Carolina still just below Raleigh now. I got into competetive weight lifting and won some contests which was cool. Then I got an inury, divorced, and re-married. I have been out of the Army for a little over 3 years. Seems like just yesterday my boys and I would load up the bikes and head out of Fayetteville to ride trails. I still got my bike. I am going to start pedaling again soon. My new wife got her first bike and she is getting into it. I never felt closer to god or more piece than when I was on my bike. I miss hanging out with you guys at the park. Your wisdom and experience was always nice to learn from. I miss when things were simple like that. A lot could be learned from your crew. One day I was asked if I ever met anyone who was succesful, and if I had what made them so. I smiled and looked at the person enterviewing me, and answered them. ” Yes I have known someone who was a success.” “It was the man that was as much a what as a who that lived in Boone, NC.” “You could not apraise his fortune with a dollar amount.” “He did not want for anything, and he had everything.” Jumping gaps and a dropping into chutes is not exactly on my to do list these days, but in the back of my mind and in my heart I will never forget and will always charish my friends I met on my bike.
